Week 51 from: July 27^th to July 31^st, 2015

“Princesses and Knights” – “Princesas y Caballeros” 

Dear Parents,

Welcome to a new exciting week! I hope everybody is enjoying this wonderful season in family.   These new week students will start learning about medieval themes like kings and princesses.  We will introduce the theme using stories like the “Princess and the Frog”, or “King Arthur and Excalibur”.  In addition, they will continue improving their Spanish language skills by writing and reading level C books.  

Learning activities:

Art: We will make a crown for kings and queens and a beautiful castle using recycle cones.  Please send them if you have some.  

Language: We will learn about King Arthur and Excalibur.   

Writing: Children will write about themselves as Kings or princesses using Spanish sight words.     

We will also have a parade and children will be their favorite character for one day.

La princesa:  The princess

El reino:  The kingdom  

El rey:  The king

La reina: The queen

FRIENDLY REMINDERS:

·         Please remember to bring extra clothes for this summer.

·         We also will be need swimwear and a towel for splash days.

·         Please bring sunscreen for your child and fill the form so we can have it in the class.

·         Remember that children should not bring toys to the class, as this causes discomfort among children.

·         Please, remember to check if your child has a set of changing clothes at school.

Week 50: Dinosaurs

Week 50 from: July 20^th to July 24^th, 2015

“Dinosaurs” – “Los Dinosaurios”

Dear Parents,

Welcome to a new exciting week! I hope everybody is doing well this summer and is having fun with their children.  This week, students will start learning about dinosaurs and reading fiction/non-fiction books about these interesting animals. They will also continue improving their creative skills through Spanish language game activities, like saying what dinosaurs would do if they existed now.   

Learning activities:

Art: We will have a dinosaur costume.

Science: We will find and discover frozen dinosaurs, like paleontologists.   

Reading: We are reading books, in pairs, about animals and stories from the series “How Do Dinosaurs go to School” by Jane Yolen and Mark Teague.

Writing: Children will write about dinosaurs using Spanish sight words.

Week 49: The Zoo

Week 49 from: July 13^th to July 17^th, 2015

“The Zoo” – “El Zoologico”

Dear Parents,

I hope everybody had a great and relaxed weekend.  During this week, our children will learn about zoo animals.  They will increase their Spanish vocabulary by applying reading and writing skills.  We will also start making class art projects for our Sff! exposition.  Children will be happy to display their class works.        

Learning activities:

Art Project: We will make a 3D lion. In Drama, we will participate in a Shadow Play story using puppets. In Reading, we are reading books in pairs about zoo animals. In Writing, children will write and describe zoo animals using Spanish sight words.

Week 48: The Aquatic World

Week 48 from: July 6^th to July 10^th, 2015

“The Aquatic World” – “El Mundo Acuatico”

Dear Parents,

Welcome to a new week! I hope everybody is enjoying this wonderful season.  During this week, the children will learn more about sea animals.  They will learn new vocabulary about this topic to use in class during learning activities.  Also, we are glad to say that children are reading stories to their friends during circle time.  They are very excited to share their new reading skills.  We suggest that you continue this important habit at home.      

Learning activities:

We will create a penny bank as an art project.

In drama, we will use puppets to create a story in groups.

In reading, we will pair up to learn about sea animals and life under the sea.
